10 counties hit with wind warning this weekend

Stephen Porzio

It is the latest of multiple weather warnings issued for the weekend.

10 counties have been newly issued a Status Yellow wind warning for the weekend.

Put out by Met Éireann on Friday afternoon, the alert applies to Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Donegal, as well as the province of Connacht.

The warning is set to be valid from 9am on Sunday until the same time on Monday.

“Very strong westerly winds are expected on Sunday and Monday,” it reads.

“Coastal flooding is possible in places.”

It comes after Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo earlier on Friday afternoon.

The rain alert will apply from 4pm on Saturday to 4pm on Sunday.

Before then, two Status Yellow warnings remain in place on Friday for the entire country due to Storm Eunice.

One is a wind warning and is in effect until 6pm on Friday.

The other is a snow and ice warning and will be valid until 10am on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, Storm Eunice made landfall in the southwest of Ireland, bringing gusts of 130 kilometres per hour along with heavy rain, sleet and even some snowy conditions.

A man in his 60s died on Friday morning after sustaining injuries from a falling tree in Wexford.

Meanwhile, thousands of homes across Ireland were left without power as a result of the storm’s arrival into the country.
