15-year-old boy dies days after being rescued from lake

Very sad news.

A 15-year-old boy who was rescued after getting into difficulty while swimming in Lough Sheelin earlier in the week has died.

Emergency services attended the lake on Tuesday which is located at a meeting point of counties Westmeath, Meath and Cavan.

The boy was rescued from the water around 3pm on Tuesday and taken to CHI Temple Street, where he died on Thursday evening.

His death brings the number of people who have drowned in Irish lakes this week to five.

A 13-year-old boy died in the Canal Court area of Scarva in Down on Monday.

A 29-year-old woman died in a drowning incident on the Longford-Cavan border on Wednesday evening.

A man in his 70s drowned in Co Leitrim on Wednesday night after he got into difficulty in Spencer Harbour.

While a 55-year-old man died following an incident in the Lough Melvin area of Fermanagh on Wednesday morning.
