300,000 vaccine doses are expected to be administered this week.
2.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have now been administered in Ireland, it has been confirmed.
Chairperson of the Covid-19 Vaccination Task Force Professor Brian MacCraith revealed that the country had reached the milestone on Tuesday evening.
He wrote: “Another major milestone achieved! 2.5 M doses administered by end of today!”

Earlier in the day, Taoiseach Micheál Martin had announced the country was set to hit the target.
He stated: “Informed by @HSELive that 2.5 million doses of the #CovidVaccine will have been given out by the end of today.
“A fantastic effort by all staff, volunteers and GPs involved in Ireland’s vaccine rollout.”

While the recent cyber attack against the HSE has caused major disruptions to health services across the country, Ireland’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout has continued.
That said, information in regards to detailed daily vaccination progress has not been published for two weeks.
Covid-19 vaccine registration for people aged between 45 and 49 opened last Wednesday.
Information on when people aged between 40 and 44 can register for a vaccine is expected in a few days.
The HSE expects that 300,000 vaccine doses will be administered this week.
