Snow is expected to fall intermittently in the six counties affected by the first warning until Thursday afternoon, but it is expected that the snow will clear or turn to rain from 2pm onwards.
In Leinster and Ulster, meanwhile, frost and icy conditions will develop again on Thursday evening, when temperatures are expected to hover around freezing, leading to potentially dangerous conditions on untreated roads as a result.
Accumulated snowfall in the affected counties is not expected to exceed two centimetres and should have cleared to rain by Friday morning.
