This Dublin café will be giving away free coffee on Friday for an important reason

Hopefully people reach into their pockets anyway.

Popular Dublin café 3FE will be giving away free coffee all day on Friday, although they hope that people will still pay something towards a fund for popular barista Rashel Winn.

Rashel will be familiar to anyone who has frequented the Fumbally Café on Clanbrassil Street in the capital, with the sad news that she has recently suffered a setback in her fight against cancer.

3FE will adopt the ‘pay what you want’ model made famous by Radiohead when they released In Rainbows in 2007.

“This morning I woke up in Melbourne to an email from Ger O’Donohue from First Draft, explaining that his business partner, our friend and Ireland’s Brewers Cup Champion Rashel Winn has recently taken a setback in her fight against cancer,” owner Colin Harmon wrote in a blogpost.

Rashel’s family is now raising money to be with her, with a a FundIt page for online donations also set up.

“We made a cash donation but wanted to do something more and so this Friday at 3fe we are not going to charge for coffee in the shop,” he added.

“Instead, there’s going to be a big bucket on the counter and you can pay what you like as a donation to Rashel’s cause. If you want to pay a little more than you usually would, that’s also completely fine.”
