It was a busy night for Gardaí in Donegal on Saturday night as they made 41 arrests for a variety of offences as the Donegal International Rally takes place in the county.

One of these arrests was for an assault on a Garda member.

This number was recorded between 5pm on Saturday evening and 7am on Sunday morning.

Gardaí revealed that 21 arrests were made for public order offences, one arrest was made for an assault on a Garda member, while there were eight arrests for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and one arrest for the sale and supply of drugs.

Further arrests were made for for a Section 3 assault, dangerous driving, drunk in charge and drink driving.

Gardaí urged the public to drive carefully on the roads and have regard for others on the road.

This high number comes after a Friday night where arrests were “significantly lower” than what they have been over the past ten years on the weekend of the Donegal International Rally.
