Earlier on Wednesday, meanwhile, Fáilte Ireland released new guidelines for the operation of pubs and restaurants.
Under the new guidelines, restaurants will need to stick to a maximum of six adults and nine children per table when they reopen.
Pubs and restaurants will also need to close by 11.30pm and no live music will be allowed.
A time limit of 105 minutes will apply to indoor dining in cases where a two-metre social distancing of tables cannot be maintained.
This time limit is not required if there are two metres between tables indoors. There will be no time limit for outdoor tables.
A previous version of this article stated it was the first time hospital figures for Covid-19 had dropped below 100 since last September. It is in fact the second time this has happened.
