Younger people were less likely to say they would take the vaccine.

55% of Irish people would take Covid-19 vaccine, according to a new survey.

The survey, which was carried out on behalf of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association (IPHA), found that 55% of Irish people over the age of 18 would take a Covid-19 vaccine if one became available.

33% of people said that they were unsure, while 12% of respondents said they would not take a vaccine.

The IPHA surveyed 975 people over the vaccine, following reports that many pharmaceutical companies are ready to file for authorisation.

Oliver O’Connor, chief executive of IPHA said that while no vaccine is available just yet, there is reason to be optimistic, and that there is things we can still do to help.

He said: “Although all of us want to see the back of the pandemic, it is not about how fast we can get a vaccine. What matters is that it is safe and that it works.

“These are the priorities for our industry, working with the regulatory agencies. We must move at the speed of science. We would encourage the public to get their vaccinations, especially now that we are in flu season.”

Many are optimistic that a Covid vaccine could be available in some capacity before the end of the year.

An update on Ireland’s Covid situation is expected on Monday evening.
