Emergency services were alerted shortly before 3pm yesterday.
A 7-year-old boy has tragically passed away after getting into difficulty in a swimming pool in Co. Clare.
The incident occurred at the Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre, near the towns of Ballina and Killaloe, yesterday (Saturday, April 20).
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the hotel just before 3pm.
It is understood that the boy was attending a birthday party at the hotel and is originally from Clonlara.
The boy was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí said they were treating the boy’s death as a “tragic accident”, and that foul play was not suspected.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a swimming pool on a premises in Killaloe, Co. Clare, shortly before 3 pm on Saturday, April 20th, 2024.
“A 7-year-old boy was transported from the scene to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later pronounced deceased.
“The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.”
