All were in good health when they were found.

Eight men discovered in hiding on a bulk cargo ship travelling from France to Ireland on Wednesday have been deported from the country.

The eight men were discovered in good health on the ship but have since been returned to their last country of origin.

Garda immigration officers attached to Waterford Garda Station assisted by the Garda National Immigration Bureau carried out an assessment of their immigration status following the discovery.

The men were refused “leave to land” in this jurisdiction.

The men were deported, under Garda escort, on a ferry destined for Cherbourg which left Rosslare at 8.30pm on Thursday evening.
