Horrifying news from Scotland.

The Moray Police have confirmed that a man in his 80s has died following a mid-morning attack in the Birkenhill Woods in New Elgin, Scotland.

Police were alerted to the attack at 9am yesterday morning.

The man had been walking with two companions – a man and a woman, each in their 70s – who were also attacked. Their injuries are serious, but not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “First and foremost, I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone within North East Division when I say my thoughts are with the family and friends of all those affected by this tragic incident.

“I know the circumstances will understandably cause concern within the local community, particularly because incidents of this nature are so incredibly rare.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Additional patrols have since been deployed to the Birkenhill Woods area.
