In response to the public message of anti-semitism the Beastie Boys and local politicians have called for a 'Stand up against hate' rally in the memorial park this weekend. Adam Yauch like the rest of his bandmates was Jewish. He died in 2012 from cancer. There has been a well-documented spike in hate crimes and racially-charged attacks around the country since Donald Trump was elected president. The President-Elect took the time to criticise the public reaction to Mike Pence at the Hamilton musical, but has not yet denounced these latest symbols of hate, violence and torture. The New York Mayor's office tweeted asking for people to report any incidents of harassment or hate and the Beastie Boys are asking the public to support the rally in Brooklyn on Sunday morning. https://twitter.com/beastieboys/status/800009794778038272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw This is not the time to be passive about racism and injustice. As is becoming customary it is children that are showing huge compassion and willingness to combat hate with colour and love. Check out what these New York kids did to deface the defacement. https://www.instagram.com/p/BNAAVAsgZRo/ Little gestures of hope..@beastieboys Adam Yauch Park in Brooklyn Heights was left defaced with ugly symbols of hate today.
