Ireland has plenty to offer for the snap-happy tourist
Ireland is a popular destination with holiday makers and tourists from around the world, and a lot of them like to take out their cameras and get a few snaps of our beautiful country, at least according to a photography heat map that the guys at Google have put together.
Dublin slides just in to the top 50 most photographed places in the world at no. 49, and is Ireland’s highest ranking entry. Other popular spots amongst folk visiting our fair isle are the cities of Galway (820), Cork (888) and Belfast (945), along with a few of our most famous sights, like the Cliffs of Moher (1129) and Giant’s Causeway (1151) also proving popular.
The data contains the top 15,000 most photographed locations in Google’s Panorimo service, which allows users to tag a location to their photos which can later then be used for Google Earth, and this map is linked to that service as well as Google Maps and Street View, so you can take a virtual tour of the world’s most popular places.
As you might expect, the world’s biggest cities top the list, with New York, Rome and Barcelona occupying the top three spots. You can head over and check out the map and not even have to leave the comfort of your own seat, or deal with the unpleasantness of tourists.
