You can watch it via webcam as well.

If you’re planning on staying in tonight, and if you happen to have a telescope view, or access to the internet, then you’ll catch a view of an asteroid hurtling past Earth.

A huge asteroid up to five times as tall as The Spire in Dublin will pass by Earth tonight, according to the experts.

An asteroid known as 2000 QW7 is expected to pass by Earth closely, but safely, at 5.3 million kilometers from the planet.

As it is carefully tracked by space experts, it’s expected to pass Earth at around 12.54am, Irish time.

This asteroid in particular is not expected to pass Earth again until October in 2038.

NASA have said that they will continue to monitor it to determine whether it may pass closer to us in the future.

The Slooh online observatory, a robotic telescope service, will be hosting a live webcast, which you can watch here.

Slooh’s Chief Astronomical Officer, Paul Cox, said: “This monster Near-Earth Asteroid, unimaginatively dubbed 2000 QW7, is estimated to be up to 650 metres (2,133 ft) in diameter – that’s larger than New York’s One World Trade Center.

“If an object this size were to impact Earth, it would leave more than a scratch – it could wipe out a city and cause regional devastation! Yet, just like the dinosaurs, we’re hopelessly ill-prepared for such an event.”
