Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport's Managing Director, has been explaining the findings:
“The number of people who travelled by air between Dublin and London last year was the equivalent of almost the entire population of the Republic of Ireland.
"That meant that every week last year 86,000 people flew between Dublin and London – that’s more than a full Croke Park stadium or an almost full Wembley Stadium flying between the two cities every seven days.”
The commute is extremely important to the economy, in terms of business-related trips. Trade between the UK and Ireland equates to €58 billion per year, breaking down to €32 billion of exports from Ireland and €26 billion of imports to Ireland.
Overall, Dublin Airport had a fantastic 2015, with an extra 3.3 million people passing by its terminals.
Incidentally, if you're wondering what the most popular international air route in the world is, that accolade goes to the Hong Kong-Taipei journey, which attracts 5 million people a year.
Still though, that makes Dublin-London the most popular European route in the skies, so we'll smile to that.
