Gardaí are still at the scene.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed to JOE that additional Gardaí and Garda resources were deployed to Patrick Street in Cork city centre on Friday evening (8 November).

In a statement issued to JOE, it was confirmed that the actions were taken after concerns were raised over a “potential for an incident to occur at a retail premises” on Patrick Street.

Photos shared on social media appeared to show large groups of people gathered on Patrick Street. Other photos from the scene appear to show a Garda van driving down the street, which is largely known as the main shopping street in Cork.

Gardaí arrived to the scene in order to prevent any such incident, and as of the time of writing, no offences have been reported from the area.

According to the Gardaí, additional members of the force are still patrolling the Patrick Street area.
