The teenager rang the police and confessed to the crime soon after the shooting took place.
Police in Alabama have said that a 14-year-old boy confessed to shooting his entire family in the late hours of Monday night (local time).
When police arrived at the scene, three of the family members were dead, with the other two in a critical condition.
A police officer then confirmed to
CNN that the two members in critical condition had since died.
The local sheriff's office
tweeted that "He is currently assisting investigators in locating the weapon, a 9mm handgun that he said he tossed nearby."
At the time of writing, neither the victims nor the shooter have been identified.
