From Sunday, March 2, alcohol will be banned on the 1pm service from Galway to Heuston Station due to complaints of anti-social behaviour, so you better bring a book.
From this coming Sunday you won’t be able to buy booze onboard the 1pm service from Galway to Heuston Station and according to Iarnród Éireann you won’t be able to bring your own beer either…
@cloudsteph no BYOB either, this train to be alcohol-free

Commuters who are found to be in possession of alcohol before boarding the train will have it confiscated, but that may lead to some people feeling the need to ‘down their drink’ before getting on board, which certainly wouldn’t bode well for all the other passengers making the two and a half hour journey to or from Galway.
Speaking to RTÉ, Iarnród Éireann spokesperson Jane Creegan said: “The decision was taken to make these services alcohol free because we have large groups of people travelling – particularly on stag and hen parties – that may in some instances engage in the over consumption of alcohol and this can be intimidating to other customers.
“It is a measure we take reluctantly, but we must act when our customers are regularly having their journeys disturbed by a minority”.
RTÉ also reports that similar restrictions will be implemented on other services, including certain trains between Waterford and Dublin, but a date for the restrictions have yet to be set.
