Almost 4,000 Canadian working visas were snapped up in 12 minutes by Irish jobseekers

That was fast

Irish people really, really like Canada, it seems.

You might remember us warning you yesterday that the Canadian visas made available to Irish jobseekers yesterday wouldn’t be around for long and so it proved last night.

According to The Irish Times, 3,850 working holiday permits were snapped up in just 12 minutes by eligible Irish jobseekers last night, with a further 3,850 set to be made available in the second round tomorrow.

The exact time that the visas will be made available will be revealed later today but once again, timing will be everything as the available visas in last year’s second round were snapped up in half an hour.

Applicants for the working holiday visas have to be over 18 and below the age of 36 and if successful, they’ll have 12 months in which to activate it.

That’ll give them plenty of time to familarise themselves with the environment they’ll encounter across the big pond to the west, which they’ll no doubt do by spending their days eating maple syrup, listening to Celine Dion’s greatest hits and watching box sets of Due South.

Who doesn’t love a good lazy stereotype, eh?
