Ant & Dec call out Boris Johnson over Downing Street Christmas party

Danny Jones

“Evening, Prime Minister… for now!”

Ant & Dec took a pop at UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The comedy duo have always been pretty good at dropping in topical jokes to their opening monologue and links between clips – the ‘Evening, Prime Minister’ gag has been a staple for many seasons now  – but this time around it was particularly pointed.

As you can see, not only does Ant over-egg the fibby pudding, as it were, drawing attention to the increasingly transparent lies told by the UK government over the Christmas party scandal, but Dec delivers his classic line with a caveat and what many will hope is now a foregone conclusion: “Evening, Prime Minister… for now!”

The fallout from the footage revealing Tory members laughing and joking about having held a Christmas party is still reverberating across the UK, as people are incensed that the very arbiters of the law and Covid-19 guidelines over last year’s festive period flagrantly flouted those laws while everyone else had to sacrifice seeing their families.

Social media is awash with people in the UK recounting their Covid stories from last Christmas, speaking of family members that they couldn’t be with before they passed away while frontline workers toiled under often devastating circumstances.

Meanwhile, members of the government and, it would appear, members of the media enjoyed wine and cheese, party games, and Secret Santa.

At the time of writing, the UK government is yet to admit that the apparent party actually took place.
