At least 27 killed after car bomb explodes in Turkish capital Ankara

Horrific news from Turkey this evening…

At least 27 people have been killed and another 75 injured after an explosion in Ankara, according to the governor’s office.

The explosion happened in the Güvenpark in the Kızılay district in central Ankara close to a number of bus stops around 6:35pm local time today.

A number of vehicles were on fire after the explosion and while ambulances are at the scene, the area was originally evacuated in case of a second attack.

“According to initial reports, 27 of our citizens were killed in a blast caused by a bomb-laden car at Kızılay’s Guvenpark,” the governor’s statement said.

It added that 23 people had died at the scene while a further four had died on their way to hospital according to the BBC.

The wounded have been brought to various hospitals around the city with this being the third major blast to have hit the city since October 2015.

No group has claimed the attack.
