ATM in Mayo spits out free money just in time for Christmas

Why does this never happen to us?

Christmas came early for some ATM users in Mayo earlier today, but it doesn’t look like they will be able to keep the cash for long.

If you used the Ulster Bank ATM in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, earlier today then you probably walked away with a little more than you bargained for.

That’s because the machine was spitting out €50 notes instead of €20s. HALLELUJAH!

According to the Irish Mirror, one ATM user pocketed over €600 after initially requesting to withdraw less than half of that amount. Naturally, word got out on social media and at one point more than 30 people could be seen queuing outside.

Unfortunately for those who thought they bagged a lovely Christmas bonus less than a week before the big day, an Ulster Bank spokesperson said the bank would “be in contact” with anyone who withdrew the extra cash.

“We are aware of an ATM error on Thursday evening, which impacted a small number of customers.

“We are currently investigating to identify affected customers and will be in contact with them in due course.”

It’s still unclear just how much extra money the ATM in question spat out.
