One arrested as man attempts robbery with firearm in Dublin city shop

One man has been charged.

Gardaí are investigating an incident involving an armed burglar who allegedly threatened staff and demanded cash in a shop in Dublin’s north inner city.

The incident occurred at a premises on Berkeley Road, Mountjoy at approximately 12.35pm on Thursday, 10 May.

An alarm was raised after a man allegedly walked into a premises and produced a gun from his bag. According to police, he then threatened workers and demanded cash from staff. He then fled the premises without any cash.

Gardaí responding to the call observed a man close by and arrested him.

The man, aged 44 years, was arrested and brought to Mountjoy Garda Station where he was detained for questioning and eventually charged in connection with the incident.

A firearm was also recovered.

He is due in court at 10.30am on Friday morning.
