AUDIO: 7 General Election candidates respond when asked if they’ve ever smoked weed

It’s a topic that’s high on the agenda.

The latest in a long line of public pre-General Election debates took place on 2FM last night, when Eoghan McDermott quizzed seven election candidates on a range of important issues a week out from the big day. One of the topics broached by McDermott is something that has long been a talking point in this country; the issue of legalising drugs and in this instance, the legalisation of cannabis in particular. Several well-known political figures from Bill Clinton to Brian Cowen have famously admitted to smoking cannabis in the past and McDermott asked the seven candidates who appeared on GE16 with Eoghan McDermott that ‘burning’ question last night. The responses from the candidates were varied and very interesting, particularly from one candidate who admitted to having sampled it and then immediately worried about what their mother would think.
