Tragic news.

A reported 78 people have died following a fire in Bangladesh, after a blaze that broke out at night in a residential building that had flammable material stored on the ground floor.

The fire quickly spread through a district in Bangladesh’s capital city of Dhaka, killing an estimated 78 people.

According to the BBC, members of a bridal party are thought to be among the victims.

It started on the ground floor of a building, before racing through three other buildings, officials say. Many people were trapped, unable to escape the flames.

Although the locaton of where the fire started is clear, it has not been proven what exactly caused the fire to start.

As well as those reported dead, a number of people were found in critical condition. The number of victims is expected to rise as the search continues through the damaged buildings.

Firefighters fought for more than five hours to put out the blaze, but struggled both with the narrow streets and the lack of water sources.
