Body found in search for missing man in Kerry

His body was discovered on Saturday evening in the Whitebridge area.

The body of a man who had been reported missing for two days has been recovered in Killarney, County Kerry.

A large scale search got under way in the area for Matt Hodd, an ecologist and poet who’d last been seen on Friday.

Alarms were raised on Saturday morning, when it was discovered that 42-year-old Hodd’s whereabouts were unknown. He had last been seen in the Whitebridge/Millroad area of the Flesk River before noon on 11 May.

Local volunteers, Killarney Mountain rescue, Killarney Water rescue and the Civil Service all partook in the search which spanned over two days.

Nearby woodlands as well as waterways were searched for a number of hours over the weekend.

Gardaí, who had appealed for people’s assistance, thanked the public and searchers for their participation. Foul play is not involved and the family have since been informed.

Hodd, a well-known figures in literary circles, started the event Poetry in the Park Killarney back in April 2017.

His father, Dr. Toby Hodd, was a respected botanist and zoologist.
