Bono will pay for it all himself.
U2 lead singer Bono has written to President Moon Jae-in of South Korea requesting that assistance be sent to Ireland in order to combat the spread of coronavirus.
South Korea was one of the countries originally worst-hit by the virus, but stifled its spread through aggressive testing. Despite its population of over 51million, only 214 deaths were recorded due to Covid-19.
The official Twitter account for the Office of The President issued a statement this morning confirming the correspondence between the rock-star and the politician.
It read: “Humanitarian activist Bono, the lead vocalist of the rock band U2 and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, recently sent a letter to President Moon Jae-in.
“It was about asking Ireland for help to overcome the Corona-19 crisis. We will deliver a written briefing by spokesman Kang Min-suk.” The South Korean government has yet to respond to Bono’s proposal.
The letter saw Bono offering to pay for personal protective equipment, medical equipment and further Covid-19 testing kits. The singer is believed to be worth over €600million.
Earlier during the outbreak, Bono wrote a song to comfort Italy during its worst moments of the virus, titled Let Your Love Be Known.
