Britney Spears’ dad suspended as her conservator

“Jamie Spears has been suspended and he will be formally removed shortly.”

Britney Spears’ dad, Jamie, has been suspended as conservator of his daughter’s estate in the latest development in the long-running dispute.

After a court hearing on Wednesday (29 September), Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengar told supporters of the pop star: “I’m so pleased and proud to say Jamie Spears is no longer a conservator.

“Jamie Spears has been suspended and he will be formally removed shortly.”

Multiple reports state that Los Angeles judge Brenda Penny said it was in the singer’s “best interests” to remove her father from the conservatorship and that the current situation was “untenable”.

Another hearing on whether to terminate the conservatorship in its entirety will take place on 12 November.

In 2008, Spears was placed under a conservatorship after suffering a public battle with mental health problems, with her father overseeing her estate.

The musician has been attempting for months to remove her father as her conservator, with the #FreeBritney movement picking up steam.

The pop star remains under the care of a personal conservator, Jodi Montgomery, for the time being.

Jamie agreed to step down from his long-time role as conservator in August and filed to end the conservatorship earlier this month.

Certified public accountant John Zabel has now been appointed temporary conservator of Britney’s estate.

Though after the hearing, the singer did not directly address the court’s decision, she did post on Instagram a cryptic message.

In it, she told her followers she was “on cloud 9” alongside footage of herself appearing to be flying a small plane.
