Brrrrutal weekend in store as temperatures set to drop as low as -5 degrees

Wrap up well lads

Conor Heneghan

Hopefully this won’t have too much of an effect on your weekend plans.

Barely a day has passed this week without Met Eireann seeing fit to issue a weather warning of some sort.

They haven’t had to do so today but that doesn’t mean that the skies are suddenly going to clear up and treat us to an unseasonably balmy last weekend in January.

The forecast for today is for cold and breezy weather once again with the mercury not getting any higher than seven degrees.

Temperatures will drop as low as zero degrees in some places tonight so motorists will have to be wary of frost and ice on secondary roads before temperatures drop even further heading into Saturday.

Both Saturday and Sunday will be pretty cold and windy during the day, but it is after dark when the freezing temperatures will really start to kick in, with lows of -5 degrees predicted in places.

Try and have a good weekend despite the weather folks and remember to be careful out there.
