This could mean an increase in your cash flow.
Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty has confirmed that the welfare increases announced in Budget 2019 last year will go ahead in the last week of March.
The social welfare increases will include an increase by €5 per week in the maximum personal rate of a pension for 637,340 pensioners aged 66 and over from the week commencing 25 March.
There will also be a €5 increase for 684,700 weekly welfare recipients, including carers, widows, people with disabilities, lone parents, jobseekers, Maternity and Paternity Benefit recipients, Farm Assist recipients and Community Employment participants.
13,200 families meeting certain conditions, receiving the One Parent Family Payment and Jobseeker’s Transitional Payment, will also receive an additional €20 a week for a maximum of €150 per week.
Other increases include a €2.20 weekly increase for those who have dependents under 12, and €5.20 for dependents over the age of 12.
All told, roughly 1.5million Irish people will see some increase in their welfare payments as a result of the latest adjustments.
The Irish economy inflated by .7% in 2018, according to data from Statista.
Ahead of the increases, Minister Doherty commented:
"The increases - which will begin to kick in over the next few days – will benefit a wide variety of people throughout the country. Old, young, widows, single parents, farmers, those with a disability and those searching for work – up to 1.5 million people stand to benefit in communities throughout Ireland.
"These increases are part of the continuing incremental work I began last year and are allowing us to restore supports after a lost decade of cuts."
The increases began on 20 March and will continue to roll out before 29 March.
