Not all bad news for the people of Kildare.

On Monday it was announced that the 126N bus will make its final journey this coming Saturday (24 November).

The route had originally served the stops at Heuston Station, Inchicore, Newlands Cross, Citywest, Rathcoole Junction, Kill Junction, Naas and Newbridge.

The news was not taken well by those who it would affect, but there is a bit of good news to counter the halting of this route.

The National Transport Authority have since announced the operation of additional Route 126 services on Friday & Saturday nights.

It will commence on 30 November, and will last throughout the months of December.

The services will depart the city centre at 00:30hrs & 03:30hrs serving Kill, Naas, Newbridge, Sallins and Clane.

Standard cash and leap card fares will apply to the service.

Bus Éireann announced the reasons for the stopping of the 126N route, saying: “It is a commercial service, which receives no State funding.

“The costs to run the service were not being covered, due to insufficient passenger numbers, and it has been loss-making for some time.

“As a result, the company took the decision to no longer operate the 126N Nightrider service.”
