The driver of the vehicle is being “medically assessed”.

Bus Éireann has said that it will carry out an investigation after one of its double decker vehicles crashed into a railway bridge in Cork city.

The incident occurred at Dublin Hill at around 9.10am on Monday morning (12 June), with Gardaí and Cork City Fire Brigade attending the scene.

In a statement to JOE, a Bus Éireann spokesperson said that the vehicle was not in service at the time, meaning there were no passengers on board.

They added that the driver of the double decker bus is being “medically assessed”. A Garda spokesperson, meanwhile, told JOE that “no injuries were reported”.

Following the incident, the road was closed with diversions in place but has since been fully reopened for use. While the accident did cause Irish Rail delays on Monday morning, normal services have recommenced.

The Bus Éireann spokesperson also said:

“There is a minor diversion to route 207A between Glenthorn and Merchants Quay which will not serve Dublin Hill or Blackpool village until the road reopens. Irish Rail services will continue to operate as normal.

“The recovery of the vehicle will take some time and we are grateful for the assistance of the emergency services.

“Bus Éireann will carry out a full investigation into this incident.”
