A Garda manhunt is underway.

Gardaí in Kevin Street are investigating an incident in which a couple’s SUV was hijacked with their baby still inside in Dublin.

It’s understood that the couple were exiting Phoenix Park at around 11.15pm on Sunday night when their car was approached by a man with a knife on Conyngham Road, Islandbridge.

Both the man and woman were forcibly removed from the vehicle as their attacker hopped in and drove away, not knowing there was a baby in the backseat. Upon realising, he stopped the car  and ordered the parents to remove the child before he drove off.

He then escaped in their grey, 181 registered Nissan Qashqai which has been reported stolen to Gardaí.

A Garda spokesperson spoke to JOE saying: “Gardaí at Kevin St, Dublin 8, are investigating an incident which occurred at Conyngham Road, Islandbridge at approximately 11.15pm last night.

“An SUV vehicle was exiting the Phoenix Park when a male approached the vehicle and threatened the driver and passenger. The suspect was armed with a knife. Both male and female were pulled from the vehicle.

“They sustained no injuries. The suspect then drove SUV from scene with a 1 year old child in the back seat. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect ordered injured parties to take child from vehicle.

“No direction of travel. The SUV is still listed as stolen.”
