A car has hit several people outside the Natural History Museum in London

Carl Kinsella

A person has been detained after a car injured several pedestrians in an incident outside London’s Natural History Museum.

A BBC report from the scene has said that some witnesses believed they heard gunfire, and that armed police had now arrived to the scene.

While the injuries sustained are believed to be minor, the person believed to be responsible was seen pinned to the ground by police before being detained.

So far, police have not commented on what they believe the motive of the detained person to be — or confirmed whether the incident was intentional.

The incident comes just months after an attack on London Bridge where a car slammed into pedestrians left 11 people dead including the attackers. Other London landmarks such as Westminster have also been targeted in the past year.
