PIC: Motorist in Clare has car seized after woeful attempt at doctoring tax and NCT discs

Kate Demolder

One of the worst we’ve ever seen.

Ireland’s motorists have gained something of a reputation in recent years for badly doctoring insurance and tax discs in an attempt of not getting caught out.

And it seems that with insurance prices rising all the time, the attempts at disc-altering have only gotten poorer.

Check out one of the Gardaí’s most recent seizures – this chancer from County Clare, who’s taken what looks like a permanent marker to his tax and NCT discs.

The owner of the car managed to (quite appallingly) change the number ‘5’ to an ‘8’ on their NCT disc, buying them a sweet three months after quite obviously failing a recent exam.

Next up was tax disc, which quite clearly says 2017 on the top – except for the bottom two numbers, which were altered from their original ’07-17′ to ’08-18′.

And if we can see that from a tweeted photo, we can only image that it took a Garda on the beat about four seconds before they noticed something was not right.

As well as a subpar attempt at making it look like they’ve paid for tax in recent years, the car also boasted two bald tyres.

As explained in the tweet, following the seizure of the vehicle itself, a court appearance was also issued for the driver of the vehicle.

Why the motorist in question ignored the glaringly obvious ‘2017’ on the tax disc, and the quite obviously distressed tyres, we’re not entirely sure – but considering the rubbish nature of the disc-altering, we’d hate to see what the motorist in question would attempt to do to the car’s wheels.

Don’t try this at home, folks.
