The Chicago Fire Department managed to capture the moment on camera.
A cat in Chicago has survived after jumping out of a fifth-floor window in order to escape an apartment fire in the city.
Footage shared by Chicago Fire Media shows smoke coming out of a building at 65th and Lowe and a cat then jumps from the fifth floor to the ground, landing safely on the grass.
It had only a brief moment of hesitation before it launched itself from the window.

“It went under my car and hid until she felt better after a couple of minutes and came out and tried to scale the wall to get back in,” said fire department spokesman Larry Langford.
The cat did not suffer any injuries and the fire department are trying to find its owner.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
