The gun was found by a five-year-old child.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a loaded firearm was recovered on Thursday in the Mulhuddart area of West Dublin.

The gun was found by two young children, one of whom was just five, playing in the Castlecurragh Heath estate, the same estate where a shooting occurred last week. It is believed that the gun was disposed of after it was used in last week’s incident.

Nobody was killed in last week’s shooting, but a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The gun, which was a Glock handgun, was loaded and ready to go off.

Gardaí in Blanchardstown say that investigations are ongoing and “at an early stage.”
