In response to the controversial Rolling Stone cover of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston bombing suspect, a policeman has released some photos from the night he was captured.

The decision by Rolling Stone magazine to put the man accused of being responsible for the Boston marathon bombing, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, on their front cover has been a very controversial one.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Rolling Stone

Some have accused the magazine of glamourising and glorifying the man set to go on trial for the deaths of three people and injuring over 250 more. Some newsagents, especially those in the Boston area, have refused to stock the new issue, though others have defended Rolling Stone’s right to put whomever they want on their cover, in whatever style they chose.

Now, a policeman in Boston has hit back, saying he wanted to show the real Tsarnaev, on the night he was captured.

State Police Sergeant Sean Murphy was tasked with taking photos on the night that the manhunt finally caught the suspect and he has now sent some of his pictures to Boston Magazine and explained his reasons why.

“What Rolling Stone did was wrong. This guy is evil. This is the real Boston bomber. Not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.”

There are a number of pictures in the piece, which you can read here, but this shot of Tsaernaev with the red dot of a sniper rifle on his forehead as he finally gave himself up, is the most powerful.

The photos were released without permission and Murphy could himself face sanction now from his bosses.
