One very lucky Irish person is waking up over €5.4 million richer on Christmas Eve

The best early Christmas present imaginable.

Some of you will no doubt be breaking with tradition and opening Christmas presents early at some stage today, but we have a feeling nothing will top the early present delivered to one lucky National Lottery ticket holder on Saturday night.

There was one winner and one winner only of the National Lottery jackpot of €5,436,602 in Saturday night’s draw, with the ticketholder having purchased the ticket in WH Smith at the arrivals hall in Dublin Airport.

Given the amount of traffic that’s gone through the airport in recent days, it’s entirely plausible that the winner was someone home from abroad for the holidays, making an already special Christmas into probably the most unforgettable one yet.

If you or someone you know happened to be passing through the airport recently, then you might want to check the winning numbers, which were 5, 14, 28, 29, 32 and 38.

The bonus number was 31.

Apart from the jackpot, there were thousands of winners of amounts from €1,537 for matching five numbers to a €3 scratch card for matching two numbers and the bonus.

Granted, it’s not quite €5.4 million, but those less sizeable amounts will still come in very handy over the Christmas.
