Clerys workers reach a settlement for a ‘significant’ payment from owners of former department store

The deal clears the way for planning permission at the O’Connell Street site.

Former workers at Clerys will receive a ‘significant’ goodwill payment from the owners of the iconic building on Dublin’s O’Connell Street.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed but SIPTU has withdrawn its objection to planning permission at the site.

It is now expected that around €150m will be invested in a project which will see Clerys transformed into a 176-bedroom hotel, with retail and office units also included.

The Clerys building was bought by Natrium in 2015 for €29m, a move which ultimately led to the closing of the store and the loss of 460 staff.
