Cocaine, cannabis, heroin and ecstasy worth just under €3 million seized in Dublin

A 25-year old man was due to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court on Thursday morning in relation to the investigation.

Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized a significant quantity of drugs, with a value in excess of €2.8 million, in an operation in Dublin on Wednesday.

As part of ongoing investigations targeting serious organised criminal activity in the Dublin Region, two cars were stopped in the Drumcondra area of Dublin on Wednesday morning.

During the course of searching the cars, approximately 5kg of Cannabis Herb (subject to analysis) was seized. Two men, aged 25 and 30, were arrested at the scene and were detained at Finglas Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 – Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

In a follow-up operation, a search was conducted at an address in Drumcondra and a significant amount of drugs was seized, including cocaine, heroin, cannabis herb, cannabis resin and ecstasy tablets (subject to analysis) along with drug packaging and mixing paraphernalia (see image at the top of the page).

The total amount of drugs seized in in excess of €2.8million.

Investigations are continuing.

Elsewhere in Dublin on Wednesday night, Gardaí seized drugs with an estimated value of €300,000 and arrested one man during an operation as part of Operation Thistle.

Gardaí attached to the Street Crime Unit at Kevin Street Garda Station carried out a search of a flat in the Whitefriar Gardens Flat Complex in Dublin 8 shortly after 9pm on Wednesday night.

During the search, heroin and mixing agent was discovered with a potential street value of €250,000 along with cocaine and crack cocaine with a street value of €50,000 (analysis pending).

A 56-year-old man arrested at the scene is currently detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996. He can be held for up to seven days.
