Coldplay ‘show Oasis up’ with bargain ticket prices for upcoming tour

Charlie Herbert

Coldplay are playing eight dates in Europe next summer.

Coldplay have been praised by fans after they announced some tickets for their upcoming UK tour will be available for as little as £20.

Over the last few weeks, the subject of ticket prices for major gigs has dominated the news thanks to the Oasis reunion.

There’s been plenty of discussion over what is the right amount to charge for a concert, with controversy about touts and dynamic pricing after tickets for the Oasis gigs next summer went on sale.

All dates for the concerts next summer are now sold out, so if you want to get your hands on a ticket, it will have to be through resale.

Since then, another huge band, Coldplay, have announced they are also going on tour in 2025. Chris Martin and co will be playing eight dates in Hull and London in August next year to celebrate the release of their new album Moon Music.

These are the only European cities where the band will perform next year.

Whilst the full ticket prices have yet to be confirmed, the band have announced that some tickets will be available for the gigs for as little as £20.

For every show on their world tour, the band have released a limited number of Infinity tickets costing the equivalent of £20/$20/€20 to “give fans the chance to attend the Music Of The Spheres World Tour at a super low price.”

The tickets must be bought in pairs and are “randomly allocated anywhere in the venue – from the back row to the floor to the best seat in the house.”

Infinity tickets for the shows at Wembley Stadium and Craven Park will be available via Ticketmaster at 12pm GMT on Friday, November 22.

The scheme has been praised by fans online, with one person writing: “Coldplay doing a limited run of £20 tickets for their upcoming UK shows just proves that bands have a choice to make their gigs more affordable.”

Another agreed, saying: “This is so cool.”

Even aside from the £20 Infinity prices, the Viva la Vida hitmakers look set to charge fans less than Oasis did for their concerts. The BBC reports that tickets are predicted to be between £70 to just over £100, based on Coldplay’s current world tour prices.

The band have said half the tickets for the Hull dates, on August 18 and 19, will be set aside for local fans, whilst 10 per cent of the proceeds from sales for the UK dates will be donated to Music Venue Trust in support of grassroots venues across the country.

They’ve been praised for this as well, with one person writing on X: “From a musical stand point I’d take an Oasis gig over Coldplay 1000 times over but fair play to Coldplay they’ve shown Oasis up completely in how they’re handling tickets/proceeds from gigs next yr. Giving % to grass roots venues & guaranteeing tickets to locals is great.”

Another said: “So breaking down the #coldplay ticket price, everyone who buys one will be basically buying a grassroots gig ticket… It’s simple but really really clever….”

Tickets for the eight UK dates in Hull and London will go on sale next Thursday (September 26) when a pre-sale opens from 09:00. The general sale will then take place the following day at the same time.
