Dublin assault man dies

A man is fighting for his life following an attack in Cork.

Gardaí in Anglesea Street Station Cork are investigating a serious assault that occurred on Patrick Street in Cork city at approximately 9.15pm on Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed on Friday morning that a man in his 40s is believed to have been “seriously assaulted” by another man.

The victim has since been transferred to Mercy University Hospital in Cork, where Gardaí have confirmed that he is in critical condition.

He is being treated for injuries to his head.

In a separate incident, €60,000 worth of suspected cocaine and an imitation firearm were found in a house in Newmarket.

No arrests were made in relation to the discovery, and investigations are ongoing.
