The Rebel county has taken New York.

A Cork chef has won the latest edition of the hit Gordon Ramsay show, Hell’s Kitchen USA.

Ryan O’Sullivan, who learnt his trade in the kitchen with his dad on the Northside of Cork City, moved to the US in search of the age old American Dream.

Now, that dream appears to have come true as he’s won the prestigious show and it’s $250,000 prize.

The Cork chef won the US version of Hell’s Kitchen.

Millions of viewers tuned into watch the grand finale of Season 22 as it came down to just three chefs battling it out for the grand prize.

After starting with 18 contestants, the final three were Ryan O’Sullivan, Sammi Tarantino, and Johnathan Benvenuti.

In the first hour of the show, viewers watched as Sammi was eliminated. A little later and Ryan, who graduated from MTU and had worked in the Maryborough Hotel, was crowned the winner.

In the immediate aftermath of his massive win, Ryan told Parade: “Growing up, Gordon Ramsay was always a household name in Ireland and the U.K., so I was well aware of the shows.

“So, I always knew what Hell’s Kitchen was about and I always had an idea of what it entailed to be on the show. Finally, when I got there, I told myself, ‘Just don’t go home first. Just don’t go home first.’ That was my strategy. It was, ‘Feel it out, see what it’s like, see what the talent is like, play to your strengths, and whatever you do, do not go home first.’”

Speaking to PJ Coogan on Cork’s 96FM Opinion Line, Ryan said of the show: “It’s going to be a good watch and I hope I did Cork proud, I never once forgot my roots and I wanted to exude being Irish and being from Cork – because obviously people from Cork love telling people they’re from Cork.”
