Cork-Limerick road closed this evening after a fatal collision

The Cork-Limerick road has closed this evening after two people have died as a result of a car crash.

The collision is believed to have happened just after 6pm between Buttevant and Mallow.

According to The Independent, Gardaí have advised that the road will remain closed while an investigation of the scene takes place.

It is believed that there was a head-on collision after one car drove across a busy road and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The deceased are believed to both be in their 60s, as well as believed to be husband and wife.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
