Cork schoolboy dies while on holiday in Greece

The gifted Young Scientist award winner earlier this year was found dead.

It's understood Alex McKee, 17, was found dead on Sunday at his accommodation on the Aegean island of Kimolos.

An autopsy is due to take place today (Thursday) and is expected to establish the cause of death.

McKee won the prestigious Ombudsman for Children's Office (OCO) Award at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition earlier this year, along with two classmates.

Their project entitled Bumblebee is a communications board which focuses on giving non- verbal children independence to speak freely and bridge the gap of communication with family and also diminishes isolation and stereotypes with autism and ADHD.

It's understood McKee was in Greece visiting relatives with his mother and sister. His mother is originally from Greece and his father is Irish.

Mr McKee was due to begin his Leaving Certificate year at Terence MacSwiney Community College in Knocknaheeny in the coming weeks.
