Several counties hit with Status Orange thunderstorm warning

Met Éireann has warned of “intense lightning strikes”.

A number of counties have been issued with a fresh Status Orange thunderstorm warning.

The alert from Met Éireann applies to Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath and Wicklow and was published on Wednesday afternoon.

It is currently valid until 5pm on Wednesday and warns of “further thunderstorms with intense lightning strikes with some disruption”.

The latest alert follows a Status Orange rain warning for Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow that is in effect until midnight on Wednesday.

It reads: “Very heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms today (Wednesday) and tonight with the possibility of intense downpours.

“[It] will lead to localised flooding. Disruption is likely.”

Also valid until the same time is a Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Cavan, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly and Tipperary.
