Eligible people can book an appointment online, or check with participating GPs and pharmacies.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has announced the further rollout of a second Covid booster vaccine, with more groups becoming eligible to receive the shot over the next few weeks.

Those aged 60 and over and pregnant woman can make an appointment to receive their second dose from Wednesday (10 August).

The first appointments for the booster will be available from next Monday (15 August).

“This week we are putting the most recent vaccine advice into action and inviting new groups of people for their next booster,” said Dr Colm Henry, HSE Chief Clinical Officer.

“I encourage everyone aged 60 and over and pregnant women, to get their next booster dose. It will give you ongoing protection from serious illness, and increase your immunity against infection from Covid-19, which we know tends to reduce after a period of months following your last vaccine.”

Here are the cohorts of who will be able to receive the second Covid booster, and when appointments will be available for them.

  • Aged 60 and over: 15 August
  • Aged 55 and over: 22 August
  • Aged 50 and over: 29 August
  • Aged 12+ who have underlying medical conditions or are residents of long-term care facilities: 1 September
  • Pregnant women at 16 weeks or later: 15 August
  • Aged 5-11 with weak immune system: 15 August
  • Healthcare Workers: From October, with flu vaccine
  • People 65 and over: From October, with flu vaccine

“We want people to be aware of the protection vaccines offer and to get their best protection from Covid,” said Eileen Whelan, National Lead of Covid-19 Vaccine Programme.

“We are also continuing to plan for the autumn, when more groups of people have been recommended to have Covid boosters as well as routine flu vaccines to provide best health protection for the winter ahead.”

The HSE strongly urges people who have yet to receive a primary Covid vaccine to consider attending one of the walk-in clinics for their first or second dose of the vaccine, or to book an appointment online.

Everyone aged 12 and over can still get their first booster, and book an appointment for a HSE vaccination centre.
