‘Critical incident’ declared at London tube station as ‘multiple people stabbed’

A man has been arrested.

A critical incident has been declared at a London tube station after several people were stabbed by a ‘sword-wielding attacker.’

Hainault station, in the north-east of the capital, has been closed by police.

LBC reports that a man carrying a ‘samurai sword’ crashed a vehicle into a house in Thurlow Gardens, before stabbing a multiple people.

Police rushed to the scene shortly before 7am.

The ‘sword-wielding attacker’ is said to have stabbed members of the public and two police officers before he was arrested.

Wes Streeting, the MP for Ilford North, wrote on X: “A critical incident has been declared in Hainault.

“There are station and road closures in place. The police, ambulance service and fire brigade are responding.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “Police are at an incident in the Hainault area.

“Please follow the instructions of police officers on the ground.

“A man has been arrested.”

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said: “This must have been a terrifying incident for those concerned.

“I know the wider community will be feeling shock and alarm.

“People will want to know what has happened and will we provide more information as soon as we can.”

TfL said: “This station is closed due to a police investigation in the area.”
