Forget about the horses, the best thing about the Limerick student race day earlier this week was watching the drunkest man in Ireland try to climb a hill with hilarious consequences.
Trying to climb a grassy hill with a relatively mild incline is achievable for most people, but it proved as tough as Everest for a man who could only be described as the drunkest man in Ireland at the races in Limerick earlier this week.
Going to the races is a lovely pastime, especially when you can do it during the week and the sun is splitting the stones.
Punters in Limerick were given an added bonus when it turned out that the biggest source of entertainment on the day was not winning money on a race or checking out the fine fillies, but watching an incredibly drunk man repeatedly fail to climb a hill with hilarious consequences.
Fair play to the poor fella in question, he simply wouldn’t take no for an answer and tried to scale the hill time and time again despite the fact that a combination of the slippy grass and his chronic lack of balance and co-ordination meant that it was a nigh on impossible task to achieve.
All the while, he valiantly attempts to hold on to the paper we can only assume he was using to peruse the form and does so even when only a page or two of said paper remains intact.
The group of lads in closest proximity to the poor drunkard seem convinced that it is the funniest thing they have ever seen and even his friend – who is dressed in a similar ridiculous get-up – finds it too funny to prevent him from being humiliated in front of a crowd that grows bigger and bigger the more he tries to conquer his own private Everest.
Thankfully, this story has a happy ending as our belubious friend eventually makes it to the top of the hill, to the delight of all present. Let's just hope they didn't bother buying him a pint afterwards.
Check out the hilarious sequence of events for yourself in the video above.
